Straight White Men took place in two entirely separate realms of lighting. The preshow instructions call for “Loud, explicit music by female rappers” and the lighting to match. This translated to sweeping moving lights, rotating gobos, and lots of haze.
The actual show, however, was hyperrealistic. I took a note from television and film, and dialed in my colors to 3200K and 5600K. No color, just temperature. The name of the game for this show was practicals. A Christmas tree (channel 1225 of course), bare bulb in the closet, and even a vacuum cleaner were required for this suburban family room.
